Our Farm
The ADK Difference

Quality Nutrition

Our Registered Black Angus nutrition and feed is direct from the owned and managed lands of the historic Reed Ranch. Unlike a commercial operation or a feed lot, our ranchers are professional “Grass Growers” and must maintain vast land holdings through a careful science to balance soil, water and feed which necessary to support the herd through the winter season. This includes rotation of the livestock to aerate but not over burden the pasture and other administrative controls to achieve perfection. Our team attends Cornell University’s Cooperative Extension on a continuing education basis to understand the science behind herd management and land PermaCulture (agricultural design centered around natural ecosystems). High quality pasture maintenance is our lifeline and we attempt a closed circle process to land management. A farm cannot have perfect beef if they cannot perfect the science of grassland management!

NO “Factory Farming”

Pasture-raised beef is vastly different than most meats purchased in the typical supermarket setting. America’s Industrial Food system consists of Factory Farms which produce mass volumes of beef to feed the nation through the use of heavy antibiotics, growth hormones, air/land/water/soil impacts and high animal stress. Although this may achieve corporate marketing goals, it is a well known concern when considering healthy choices for you and your family.

Healthy Choices

Pasture-raised beef has been shown to be significantly healthier than feed lot beef. Grass fed beef has less fat, saturated fat, cholesterol and calories when compared to the alternative (i.e. you receive the good fats and not the bad fats). They are richer in antioxidants, including Vitamins C and E and beta-carotene. Most significantly, they do not contain traces of hormones/antibiotics/prescribed drugs. Grass-fed beef is a rich source for CLA (conjugated linoleic acid), which is a known cancer inhibitor. Even a British Journal of Nutrition (2011) concluded that eating grass-fed beef for only 4 weeks will provide healthier levels of essential fats to the body. What is Naturally Raised and Registered Black Angus Beef?

Registered Black Angus (or Aberdeen Angus) were originally imported from Scotland. The breed is known to be hardy and ideal for cold and inclement weather, which can occur in a Northern NY winter. Certified Angus Beef ® standards were developed to indicate a particular level of marbling, tenderness, age and color for the meat that qualified for the Angus Beef label. Angus Beef is known for its finely marbled meat, which means that the fat is dispersed evenly against the actual cut of meat. This marbling trait of Angus cattle typically creates a more tender, juicy and flavorful meat than other breeds! See more at https://www.angus.org

Naturally Raised beef if defined by the USDA and requires that it must be minimally processed, cannot contain artificial ingredients and cannot contain preservatives. At ADK Prime, we further this definition to include:

No Antibiotics on grass fed beef
No Added Hormones (growth or otherwise)
No Growth Promoting Drugs
No Ionophore Use
No Artificial Ingredients
100% Vegetarian Diet
Sourced Verified to Ranch of Birth
Humane Animal Handling Practices
Pasture-raised
High quality feed
Non-mandatory/low stress shelter whenever the herd seeks it
Fresh water supply
Working chutes and pens

It takes longer and creates more work to raise cattle using these guidelines, but we think it's the right thing to do for health, environment and the future of the industry!

“Finished” Certified Black Angus

ADK Prime has a long following of satisfied customers and a proprietary program for properly finishing our Certified Black Angus Beef. For these specific cattle, our customers request a finishing that includes a grain mixture. The end result of this finishing program adds additional “marbling” to the meat. Marbling (the little white flecks in beef) is key to flavor. The higher the amount of marbling, the higher grade and greater taste of beef. Our Certified Angus Beef ® is incredibly flavorful, tender and juicy as a direct result. This provides a high grade meat that compares to the select cuts that one may find in a fine steakhouse. Cattle in this program are not just grass fed and we want our customers to be aware that this option exists to meet/exceed your expectations. There is a taste and nutrition difference between Grass Fed and Finished beef!
